  • Sara McClelland, PhD

    DIRECTOR

    Dr. Sara McClelland, director of ProgressLab, is an Associate Professor in the departments of Women's & Gender Studies and Psychology at the University of Michigan. Her research focuses on what people think they and others deserve, often at the intersection of public policy and sexuality. Dr. McClelland received her Ph.D. from The Graduate Center at the City University of New York and was a Postdoctoral Fellow in the University of Michigan’s Society of Fellows.

    Sarah Lapean is a doctoral student in Psychology and Women & Gender Studies. Her research studies the emotions and moral evaluations that underlie sexual prejudice, and she is particularly interested in how these factors affect sexual education in the United States.

  • Idalia Maciel

    LAB MEMBER

    Idalia Maciel is a Ph.D. candidate in the Psychology program. She is a feminist sex researcher with an intersectional and pleasure-centered approach. Her work focuses on individuals who identify as women, queer, and/or non-monogamous. She is particularly interested in how marginalized folks navigate stigmatization while seeking authentic sexual and relational expression.

  • Jay Seibold

    Jay is a doctoral student in Psychology and Women's & Gender Studies. Their work investigates feminist epistemology with the purpose of developing measurements for intersectional identity. Specifically, she explores the variance in how gender is conceptualized, embodied, and expressed by minority groups.

  • Julia Smoot

    Julia Smoot is a doctoral student in the Gender and Feminist Psychology Program. Her work examines the factors that impact feelings of sexual guilt and how sexual guilt is measured in research. Julia's research interests include gender differences in sexual behavior, sexual scripts, and queer identity.
