  • Sara McClelland, PhD

    DIRECTOR

    Dr. Sara McClelland, Director of ProgressLab, is Professor of Women's & Gender Studies and Psychology at the University of Michigan. She studies how U.S. public policies shape people’s sexual and reproductive imaginations. Dr. McClelland received her Ph.D. from The Graduate Center at the City University of New York and was a Postdoctoral Fellow in the University of Michigan’s Society of Fellows.

  • Emily Briggs

    LAB MEMBER

    Emily Briggs is a PhD Candidate in the Developmental Psychology program. Her work is centered in late life and takes a developmental approach to understand how people change throughout the life course. She is particularly interested in understanding how feelings of belonging and social relationships may change in later life.

    Gracia Dodds is a doctoral candidate in the department of Sociology. She studies institutional responses to disclosures of sexual violence, sexual identity formation, and adolescent sexualities.

    Sarah Lapean is a PhD Candidate in the joint program of Psychology and Women's & Gender Studies. Her research examines how people define or deny harm through spaces and practices of social meaning-making. Areas of interest include morality, sex education, legislation, queer identity, and book bans.

  • Jay Seibold

    Jay (they/she) is a dual-doctoral student in the Women's & Gender Studies and Psychology departments. Utilizing critical feminist epistemology, her work investigates the ways in which womanhood is imagined, enacted, and accessed (or rejected). Particularly, they are interested in how sexuality and reproductive health manifest in and shape conceptualizations of womanhood.

  • Julia Smoot

    Julia Smoot is a doctoral student in the Gender and Feminist Psychology Program. Her work examines the factors that impact feelings of sexual guilt and how sexual guilt is measured in research. Julia's research interests include gender differences in sexual behavior, sexual scripts, and queer identity.
